Are there any extracurricular music opportunities for our students to take part in?
We are pleased to offer a chamber choir "Born To Glee" on Fridays after school from 2:30-3pm. This is currently an auditioned group of middle school choristers.
Students enrolled in our ensembles can also audition for the Jr and Sr Central District Festival ensembles annually, beginning in 7th grade and going through their 12th grade year. Upon acceptance, students have the opportunity to perform with selected central district students in the choral, wind band, orchestral and jazz settings.
Is their a grading system used in the music courses offered?
Our course instructors are happy to furnish their grading scales, as found in their syllabi signed off by each student and their families.
Are private lessons through the school district a possibility?
Yes! We are pleased to work with the Harvard Community Education Crosslinks program. They help run our Artist in Residence (AiR) Program. Weekly lessons are offered for both the semester and school year long terms. Please inquire with the music department or Harvard Community Education program for more information.
When can/do students begin studying in an ensemble setting? Beginning at HES, a Volunteer Chorus (grades 4-6) and before school Grade 5 Band opportunity is available to all students. Outside of school preparation and rehearsal is required of all members.
When students come to Bromfield in Grade 6, some have performed in a chorus or band, but beginners are always welcome! Should students begin a band instrument at the 6th grade level, it is highly recommended that they seek private instruction to help get them up to speed with their peers.
